SUMMARY:Eagle Peak Ranch Preserve Hike (Canyon Bridge)
DESCRIPTION:The San Diego River Park Foundation has given the Canyoneers special permission to explore their 450 acre Eagle Peak Ranch Preserve\, considered to be the flagship of the San Diego River Park Foundation. The Preserve has a variety of habitat types\, including native grasslands\, coastal sage scrub\, and Engelmann oak woodland. The views of the Upper San Diego River Gorge from the Preserve are breathtaking. This is an intermediate 4-mile hike with an elevation change of 200 feet. The hike is scheduled from 9AM–Noon. \nREGISTER HERE \nDIRECTIONS:\nEagle Peak Ranch Preserve (Julian) From I-8\, take Exit 40 for CA-79 Japatul Valley Rd. toward Cuyamaca Rancho State Park. Go 2.6 miles. Turn left to stay on CA-79 and go 20.2 miles. Turn left onto Main Street (signs for Julian) and go 0.3 mile. Turn left onto Washington (CA-78 W) and go 1.0 mile. Turn left onto Pine Hills Rd. and go 1.6 miles. Turn right onto Eagle Peak Rd. and go 1.4 miles. Turn right to stay on Eagle Peak Rd. and go 1.6 miles. Eagle Peak Rd. will turn into a dirt road. The gate for Eagle Peak Ranch is on the right hand side of the road after mile marker 3. If you reach mile marker 4 you have gone too far. Address is 5030 Eagle Peak Road\, Julian 92036. (Alternate Route Via Ramona) Take Hwy-67 to Ramona. Continue east on CA-78 and go 20.2 miles. Turn right onto Pine Hills Rd. and go 1.6 miles. Turn right onto Eagle Peak Rd. and go 1.4 miles. Turn right to stay on Eagle Peak Rd. and go 1.6 miles. Eagle Peak Rd. will turn into a dirt road. The gate for Eagle Peak Ranch is on the right hand side of the road after mile marker 3. DESCRIPTION:Join members of the San Diego Tracking Team anytime between 9 AM and 12 PM to learn how to identify the tracks of common animals in the San Diego River watershed. Examine samples of their fur and scat. Make tracks of your favorite animal in a dirt tray. Animals that inhabit our open space areas are seldom seen but their tracks make us realize they are nearby. Get a free tracking guide to take on your next hike. DESCRIPTION:Join the Allied Climbers of San Diego and The San Diego River Park Foundation to remove trash and illegal dumping from the riverbed\, recreational trails\, and roadside in El Monte Valley. This clean-up will include some work along the roadside\, and is appropriate for adults and youth 14+. Gloves and clean-up tools will be provided! \nGet ready to join us: \n\nClosed toe shoes and long pants are required\nPlease wear sun protection like sunscreen\, hat and sunglasses\nTo reduce our reliance on single-use plastics\, please bring your own reusable water bottle and a way to carry it during the clean-up\nWe encourage all volunteers to wear high-visibility colors. We will provide safety vests for volunteers working near the road.
